Romancing Halloween – Blog Hop

Leaves changing colors, crisp air, and wind with a bite – it all points to fall, and Halloween! In my younger years, I didn’t mind a scary movie. These days, I’ll stick with It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown or The Nightmare Before Christmas. When I’m watching TV and a preview comes on for a scary movie, I look away. Hell, sometimes I can’t even listen to it or I’ll have nightmares for a week.

Movies I watched as a teen during Halloween:

1. A Nightmare on Elm Street
2. Cutting Class (very early Brad Pitt!) (I even owned the VHS. Yes. VHS).
3. The Amityville Horror
4. Poltergeist

I probably read more scary books than watched frightening movies. Some of the authors I liked to read:

1. R.L. Stine Fear Street series
2. Christopher Pike
3. Stephen King – IT
4. Stephen King – The Dark Half
5. Dean Koontz

When I think of scary movies, though, I think of sitting with my husband, and squeezing up next to him when I’m afraid. Romance and Halloween? A nice combination, and one I would rather enjoy over a scary movie.

With Halloween approaching, and so many scary stories out there, I set out to write a short story taking place over Halloween, minus the scare. I came up with The Right Equation, a short story about Penny, a geek turned accountant, who goes to her 15-year high school reunion with only one intention – seeing Will, her study partner and senior year crush. The entire story takes places at the reunion, and everyone is in costume!

Pick up The Right Equation on Amazon for Kindle. If you have Kindle Unlimited, it’s free! Otherwise, grab it for only 99 cents (Click on image):
